[program-l] problem with my php/html shoutbox

Hello there,
I just created a small shoutbox for my website visiters. At the first
glance, I just wanted to have a little and basic shoutbox, but now I just
added some other things, and I now wanted to add emoticons (smilies) and I
used str_replace and preg_replace, but both functions are replacing smiley's
code to the picture very slow, thus it gos over the 30 seconds php limit,
meaning the user can't post his/her message.
The idea is:
In the $codes array put all codes which will be replaced with according
image (e.g.)
code = :), image = <img src=sml/smile.gif alt=smile
Please don't upload it anywhere and don't share it in other meaning, except
for the help.

And, I wanted to ask, are there any php debuggers or something like that?
