Hi,

Are we sure that Longhorn is nothing to do with it being a cow? <grin>
Just kidding folks.

They are all places. Different groups get to name their own products.
So, VS.NET 2003 was Everett which is near to Whidbey. VS.NET was
Whistler which is a ski resort near Seattle. Longhorn is... uh... well,
it is a place dear to the project lead. Generally a product family will
have linked names so Cairo, Chicago and Daytona were all operating
systems.

We used to keep the names secret but we have opened up a lot these days.

It could be worse. I know one company that gives its service packs names
like "Cherry blossom on a spring breeze"

I'm curious what explains the nick names Whidbey, Yucon, and Longhorn --
whether fact or folklore!
