Mike:
You hit the nail on the head with this one. I tried it ESC + F/n and I'm back
in the race.
Many thanks.
Jim

Is this a laptop keyboard? I vaguely remember having had my function keys
stop doing what I expected a few months back, and, on a whim, I decided to
try pressing fn+escape, and that restored my keyboard to its normal state.
I must have inadvertently activated some alternate mode; still not sure
how.

Further more it would seem I have lost funcionality for most of the top row
and assorted others.
Any idea?

Hi Jim,
On a UK Windows keyboard, it is the key to the right of the Backspace key.
