Google "Think java" and you'll find well written practical book about
java. It's free and it covers all basics and even object oriented
portion. Not sure does it covers OOP completely but in that case
google absolute java which is really good. You'll have to know java
basics in order to learn from absolute java book because it's expected
that you know basics since they start with classes and objects from
the first chapter and further it goes with inheritance, abstract
classes etc, don't remember the right order.
There's also book which is in .CHM format and it's called
introduction to java programming comprehensive and it covers
everything from hello world application to data structures, web
applications etc etc, obviously you pick what you want. I think that
one is free as well. Years ago, I learnt from the book I mentioned
last, and basically learnt everything from there.
As it's compiled html file, it's much easier to read either text or
source code from it then from pdf.
