I just wanted to let folks know that Visual Studio 2022 Update 4 is now
available and the audio cues should be available in this release. This means
that you should no longer need a preview release to get the audio cues. To
enable the audio cues, you can hit Ctrl+Q and search for "audio". That should
suggest "Enable audio cues" on the "Text Editor > General" page in
Tools\Options. Enable that option and you MAY need to restart Visual Studio,
but that should enable the audio cues for you.
Currently you will only hear the highest priority audio cue for a given line,
but there is a work item on our backlog to give an option to play ALL the
audio cues in priority order... so if there is an error, warning and
breakpoint on the same line, you'll hear all three cues. Hopefully we'll have
that in an upcoming release.
The audio cues that are enabled are:
Line has breakpoint
Line has error
Line has warning
Line is removed (diff view)
Line is added (diff view)
* As a tip, if you want to explore diff view, I highly recommend switching to
the Inline View. The keyboard shortcut for English keyboards is Ctrl+\,
Ctrl+1. The shortcut for non-English keyboards may be different. The command
is "Diff.InlineView" and you can find the shortcut in the Keyboard page of
Tools\Options.
Additionally, if you go into the Sounds control panel in Windows, you can
manually hook up audio cues for:
Breakpoint hit
Build canceled
Build failed
Build succeeded
Test run Failed
Test run Succeeded
