thanks a lot for providing this info! If I understand correctly,
powerdot needs to require the latest version of the graphics package
and check the papersize specification.

special was used. The option -L0 in 5.997 is a
compatible switch with 5.996. I think the current powerdot
package assumes the 5.996 or older dvips, so it
requires -L0 switch in the case of dvips 5.997 and the
new graphics package.
The above is only information since the current
powerdot package works fine with dvips -L0 ...
But I greatly appreciate if you kindly update the powerdot
package for the new dvips 5.997 and the new graphics package
when you have time.
