Then I must be using an old version of powerdot or some other dependency,
because with the minimal tex you sent me I get portrait.
When was the last version released?
Thanks

I was unable to get your example to compile properly. There was a post yesterday about changing size=12 to size=12pt. It was meant to be included in the docs, but there was a slight problem which has been corrected. You can redownload the docs again if you want to see it in there.
Anyway, when I make the change to 12pt, I am able to compile correctly.
Using your exact commands (in gentoo linux), I am able to get a pdf that is in landscape mode. Try changing to 12pt and see if that fixes it...if not....reduce your example to this:
\documentclass{powerdot} \begin{document} \begin{slide}{test} test \end{slide} \end{document}
and see if that generates a PDF in landscape mode.
