Wordpress for Dummies is a good starter. I think you’ll find WP to be pretty 
easy to do the main things. Assuming you’re using the standalone WP 
installation on a shared server, not the Wordpress-hosted option, I highly 
recommend NextGEN Gallery as a photo gallery plugin. Just search for it in the 
Plugins menu when in the backend of Wordpress.

Also, there is a WP iPhone and iPad app (free) that makes it really easy to 
post both text & photos from those units while in the field with any kind of 
internet connection.

Take a good jacket -- it can get cold down there!
