Hi Birdwastelanders
I was just looking at this Oxford list. We should have this list all over
town. We have lots of Oaks!! But I think our problem is 2 times a day
spraying. Moth caterpillars that eat oaks are the main food for baby birds.
Spider webs are the main nesting material for hummers. We don’t have wildlife
to feed birds or make webs. Several years ago I could go in the yard and take
pictures of insects of all kinds. Now I hardly ever find any.
Mike and I were talking about the mosquito tubes. 1 set will do one acre for
90 days. That is about 1 set between 4 houses. I want my spiders, insects and
caterpillars in the trees back!!! It has been several years since I have had
hummers all summer.
What to do????

Missbirders,
It's been fairly birdy with migrants around our property east of Oxford the
last couple of mornings, including SWAINSON'S and GRAY-CHEEKED THRUSHES
singing, a WARBLING VIREO, OVENBIRD, BLACK-THROATED GREEN WARBLER, and our
resident WORM-EATING WARBLER has finally returned. But the highlight for me
was a very orange male SCARLET TANAGER. Apparently this is a regular
phenomenon, perhaps often in 1st-year birds. Photos of the bird start here:
