Good morning Friends of PAS!!!
I haven't sent out an email in quite a while.
We have a huge event happening at PVCC Black Mountain Campus on Mar 8 2018.
Activities being indoors at 6pm and as soon as it is dark enough,
and the telescopes are set up outdoors, we invite you to walk down the ramp
to the observing deck and view through our high powered telescopes from
about 7pm to 9:45pm.
Please enjoy 10-14 telescopes set up for your viewing pleasure. Go from
scope to scope enjoying the views, learning about the object you are
viewing, and visiting the telescopes many times throughout the evening.
This event is free, and to keep it free, we ask that you follow 2 rules:
1) *Please do not touch the telescopes*. My Telescope Team puts the
telescope on an object they wish to show the attendees and tells about that
object. When the object goes below the horizon or is no longer visible,
they move their telescope to another object for your viewing pleasure. If
you touch the scope and lose the object they are showing, it is possible
they will not be willing to bring back that object for viewing, especially
if that is a more challenging object to locate. So, please do NOT touch the
telescopes, lean on them, brush against them, and please watch that your
children do not touch them, either.
The other rule we have is:
2) *Please no White light in the observing area*. If your phone rings, or
you wish to read or write a text from your phone, please take your phone
away from the observing area to do so. The white light will destroy the
other attendees night vision. It takes the younger eye 20+ minutes to
totally dark adapt. We wish there to be no white light in the viewing area.
If you come down the ramp from inside the Aquila building, remember you
will be blinded by the white light from inside the building for a minimum
of 5+ minutes, so take your time getting to the telescopes to let your eyes
adjust to the lack of light.
Everyone is welcome at this event. Ask questions, enjoy the info my
telescope team provides, and have a great time!
*RSVP is highly requested*, just in case weather or lack of telescope
attendance, cancels this event. You can RSVP to Events@xxxxxxxxx with the
number in your party. Always provide the name and date of the event you are
RSVP'ing for. I take in RSVP's for 3-4 months in advance. Do not assume I
know what event you are asking to attend. I will confirm your RSVP and when
the event is filled up, you will be declined attendance.
