I'm glad people think as highly of Deirdre and David as I do! I would
encourage anyone who makes suggestions about the gift to join the
Board and help us decide. That's what I told Betsey, who also made a
suggestion about a bonus. (And then when they got on the board, I would
ask what are you going to do to ensure more members and get some grants
-- because THAT's what's going to ensure our success, NOT handing our
cash bonuses.)
Because realistically, I don't think "bonuses" are the issue here. As
we discussed at the last meeting, many music directors do it for the
passion of the group, not the money. We need to use the gift to ensure
our long term success. Part of that is encouraging people who are
passionate.
Let me say that if this money becomes contentious, and Deirdre or
anybody else started lobbying for some kind of bonus for themself, it
would give me a very negative feeling about that person. The only
people who have not paid IN, but instead of taken money OUT, are David
and Deirdre. If anyone deserved a "bonus" (and I don't believe anyone
does) my vote would be for the folks who have worked tirelessly to
make it work AND have PAID dues and have received no monetary
compensation (e.g., our Board, or even Terry, who would never dream of
receiving monetary compensation for playing.)

Received an email this morning from one of our members suggesting we
give Deirdre a $15,000 bonus and David a $5000 bonus and then hang on
to the rest and not spend it for a bit. Receiving our community’s
feedback is a good thing however personal and unique those insights
