(It appears some may not be seeing important list info/Admin postings, so I'm going to start posting them with this type of subject line and alert). Group, I was able to tweak a certain file with the list server where certain text can be placed that will trigger a no-post. This is generally used so no taboo words can be posted to the list, as in anti-spam measures. This is what I tried to post to the list in a test, and I also LEFT IN the footer of course when I posted it: ------------- This email should NOT get posted. If it does, it may take a few posts to get this working, so please bear with it. ;-) To ensure emails with footers won't go to the list (the way the list used to be at the other server), I've added a bit of rare text characters at the bottom of the footer, you can see it below on the last line. Those characters were also entered in a "spamfile" file for the list, so if those characters show up in an email going to the list, it's not supposed to be posted. That odd string was used so there would be no false-positives. ------------ It worked, that never made it to the list. If you look below at the footer at the very bottom of this post (that of course will only show up now after this is posted to the list), you'll see at the extreme bottom, the line. Therefore from now on, if you don't see your posts showing up at the list, check to see that you removed the footer. I didn't see the need (yet ;-) to add any more words to the file. So you can continue to use 'virus', 'worm', etc., just fine, unlike the old list which had those filtered to prevent all those bogus virus warnings. I don't see much of those anymore, so I don't see the point in making list members misspell or hack-up those type words. But keep in mind that some individual list members may have certain other words filtered in their own email programs or AV software, and if you happen to use one of those words, those list members won't receive your post. Like for example, if a list member is having their email address nefariously spoofed and used as the "From:" line for malicious emails, and they post something like this to the list wanting help: "Some parasites are using my email address to send out spam! The spam is about p--o--r-n too! What can I do?" Obviously we know the 'taboo' word there and I hacked it up because most have that word filtered. ;-) So in this example if that hypothetical list member actually spelled out that w--o--r-d correctly, myself, and any others with that filtered word would never see the post. Also remember that many sensible knowing people have modified versions of taboo words also added to a reject list (because the cyber-terrorist sc`um use them), and any good anti-spam program will also have heuristics that detect this. I will not use examples here for obvious reasons, but you should know what I mean and where I'm headed with that, so post accordingly if you must use commonly filtered words in your posts. ;-) -Clint God Bless Clint Hamilton, Owner http://www.OrpheusComputing.com http://www.ComputersCustomBuilt.com ========================= The list's FAQ's can be seen by sending an email to PCWorks-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with FAQ in the subject line.
