G-Man, thanks for all your advice and attention. Requested information =
below:

I know that replacing the MB is going to require backup and =
reinstallation of Windows, and a call to Microsoft to explain why XP =
isn't married to the same MB any more. I do have a lot of devices =
connected right now, but am considering downsizing. =20

1 PCI express video card, Albatron nVidia Geforce 6600
1 Creative Sound Blaster Audigy2 ZS sound card
1 80GB Western Digital IDE hard drive
1 160GB Seagate SATA hard drive
1 IDE Plextor CD burner (PlexCombo 20/10/40-12A)
1 SATA Plextor CD/DVD burner (PX 716-SA)
1 floppy drive
1 Zip 250 drive
PS2 keyboard
USB cordless mouse
2GB of DDR RAM

Intel P4 3.0GHZ 530J 800FSB processor, LGA 775 (this should be part =
#JM80547PG0801M)
Gigabyte GA-8I915P Duo Pro Motherboard:
Dual Bios
Dual DDR RAM (either DDR or DDR2)
4 SATA
1 Floppy
3 IDE (2 within RAID controllers)
1 PCI 16 slot
2 PCIE slots
3 PCI slots
6 USB ports, 1 Firewire ports on back
2 Ethernet Ports
ATX 20 pin

I love lots of USB ports, I'm still pushing IDE peripherals but also =
SATA. My board currently holds a maximum of 2GB RAM, and that was OK =
when I bought it, but now I'm into digital scrapbooking which is =
graphically intensive and I want a board that holds more RAM, even if I =
keep the processor I have. =20

I bought the CD/DVD combo burner to replace the single CD burner, both =
Plextor, but then discovered that while the DVD would burn to any DVD =
brand media, the CD burner was a picky as all get out. So far it has =
not wanted to burn to any brand media that I've purchased at local =
stores. I didn't discover this for a long time because all I was =
burning was DVD's. By the time I discovered it, my warranty had =
expired. So, I had to reinstall my previous CD burner to be able to =
burn CD's.

I'm not a die-hard Zip drive user, but I have a ton of Zip disks and do =
occasionally back up small stuff to them.

I don't have any firewire peripherals, but it's always nice to have just =
in case.

I use a multi card reader plugged into my front USB port to download =
digital camera pictures.

Right now, I'm running my operating system off the 80GB IDE drive =
because I had it first and added the SATA drive later. I'm considering =
buying a larger SATA drive as my primary operating system drive if I get =
a new board. I do not use RAID and all the RAID configurations on this =
board have caused me a nightmare because I don't understand it. I've =
been told that I should be able to disable that function in the BIOS if =
I don't want to run RAID (which I don't), but this board won't let me. =
It instructs me to only use the single IDE1 outside of the RAID area for =
IDE peripherals and wants IDE hard drives plugged into the two IDE plugs =
side by side in the RAID area. It has SATA RAID in the BIOS also, which =
I was able to disable because enabling it caused it to want to see only =
the SATA drive as the boot drive, which it is not. It won't see my IDE =
drive at all if I disable RAID in the BIOS. Because the IDE hard drive =
has to be plugged into the RAID area, RAID drivers have to be installed =
during Windows Installation in order for the drive to be seen. Yet, =
both times that I've done this, it would not install the drivers from =
the floppy. So I put the drive on the peripheral IDE controller outside =
of the RAID area, installed Windows, then moved it to the RAID area IDE =
controllers. Once into Windows, I was able to install the RAID drivers =
from the very same floppy that it wouldn't install it from during =
Windows installation. I'm not super techie enough to figure out all of =
this, so for this reason, I have always hated this board and would not =
be an unhappy camper at all if I had to replace it. : )
