Try temporarily creating a new user account on your machine and see if you can
safely use Internet Explorer on the other account. You might have some
corrupted files that won't show up in a new account.

Thanks!
grrrrr!!
every time it pops up to install the active X, it throws an error in internet
explorer and it shuts down. I'll try a fresh boot to see if it does the same
thing.
I've installed the activeX when I've used panda's scan before.
