The 98SE and XP part was time consuming, but not tricky. Even with broadband, the updates take way too long and the constant rebooting is aggravating at best. The Linux was tricky *only* because of the boot process. I got stubborn on the first few attempts and tried to get the boot on the hard disk. After three attempt, I went to a boot floppy instead. Not my first choice, but works perfectly well as long as I keep a backup of the floppy handy. I have everything going pretty well. I have an onboard sound card that was built way after 98 and needs a driver. The CDROM audio won't play In Linux because Linux requires a separate audio cable from the CDROM to the soundcard. WAV's and other files will play, but music CD's won't - yet. <G> Not ready to break out the champagne yet, but I'm well pleased. It went better than expected and I learned a lot. I'm sticking with Linux for my online stuff. Much quieter service wise, very fast, and security is built into the mail and browser instead of third party add-ons. XP will do all my later games and my CD stuff. 98 will do all my older games and once I get a good backup, provide some avenues of experimentation. Lots of things I wanted to try on it when I used it before, but I don't believe in crashes so I chickened out. Now it's not my primary option, so if I screw it up, what the hey. Thanks for the kind thoughts. I made it through and my wife didn't divorce me. <G> On Sunday 05 October 2003 04:51 pm, you wrote: > I'll supply virtual choc chip muffins if someone'll bring the drink. lol > Congrats Wyatt sounds like a big task. > > Ange x > > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------- > FIGHT BACK AGAINST SPAM! > Download Spam Inspector, the Award Winning Anti-Spam Filter > http://mail.giantcompany.com > > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: Wyatt M.
