Barb, do you get an error? If so, what does it say? And, is this the installation that came with the computer, or did you ever reinstall XP on it yourself? And, lastly, what system do you have (Dell, Gateway, Compaq, other?)? ---Troth ----- Original Message ----- From: Barb To: pctechtalk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Thursday, September 12, 2002 8:28 PM Subject: -=PCTechTalk=- Re: Installing software reminds me of my daughter's problem they just got a new computer with WinXP and it won't let them install from CD's, whether they're burned or bought from the store I need to find out TOO what is the problem there I'm assuming it's an XP security thing but I don't know, I've never had XP Barb ----- Original Message ----- From: "Patti or Ken" <patken@xxxxxxxxxx> To: <pctechtalk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Thursday, September 12, 2002 3:59 PM Subject: -=PCTechTalk=- Installing software Good morning - Thanks for the help given me previously- I have another problem! My neighbour aged 78 has had a PC for several years but only uses it for games and writing to his sister in England and the monthly calendar he makes with MSPUB. No internet - He has just upgraded and now has a better PC than I have! I consider it a waste of a good PC not using the net but he hasn't a phone and wouldn't know how to handle it anyway. Now to the point- I bought a CD of Patience games from a website for him, using my credit card and trotted over to install it. Woe - it refuses to work- I get a message --An 1/0 error occurred while installing a file this is normally caused by bad installation media or a corrupt installation file. When I hit the retry button up comes the dreaded blue screen and the PC has to be reset and rebooted. So I came back home to try it in my PC's. I have my old one downstairs. Works in both of them so it's not the CD. I phoned the techie (who is also my SIL!) who made up Stan's PC and he told me to do a SFC scan- which I did- restored 2 files and tried the installation again. Still the same messages! Also had to reinstall the printer for him which had worked OK last week. Something is going on I just wonder if there are any suggestions from you people while I am waiting for SIL to get back to us on this problem.
