HB,

I would use PC100 memory and depending on the board, either 2 128 mb sticks
or 1 256 mb sticks. Theoretically PC133 memory should work, but all the
computers I have worked on (about 10/15 now) won't work with the PC133
memory (either won't detect memory at all, or won't report correctly).
You might want to go to the System applet and find the drive, and see what
driver is loaded and if you can find a new one. Do you have sound elsewhere
or is it that the drive just isn't auto-starting?

And may I recommend http://aida32.hu. More in-depth that Belarc and auto
links to manufacturers websites (if available). And it's free.

Dave

Subject: -=PCTechTalk=- I want to upgrade..

Hello all,
I looked at a Belarc summary for a friend's computer. She wants to upgrade,
and here the stats;
WinME 500Mz
Board - PCCHIPS M598LMR 1.0, 100Mz
Bios - 062601 07/15/97
Memory sticks - 64M, 32M, and 16M = 104Meg total
CD-ROM - BCD E520C

Here are my questions;
1. To upgrade memory to 256M (2 sticks), what are the specs needed i.e. pins
and 100 vs 133.
2. The CD used to play, now it doesn't. Windows Explorer shows it's there.
How do I find out if/where the driver is installed?

Thanks,

HB
