While that is a good alternative solution if you have two VCR's and do not mind doing that every 10 years...(and I have well over 100 movies), I prefer using DVD's as the life of those...and especially with a backup copy.. should out live me.... and heck.. my kids can copy them if they want....lol! But I do agree, copying them to another tape would work...for another 10 years... Thanks.... Thanks for your info on DVD. If you are worried about tape life, 10 years or what ever, why not just tape your old tape onto a new tape from one VCR to another. My "Personal" opinion on this: I have purchased a DVD burner.... (A Sony 510A - Updated from the original..and it works wonderfully) When copying from VHS recordings it is difficult to know how much will fit on a DVD. My experience has been that most take two DVD's. (You can buy cases that hold 2 DVD's) The variables involved in how much disk space it will take has to do with the length of the movie you are recording and the speed at which you recorded it. One piece of information that made us want to copy the VHS movies is that the tape will eventually fail. I do not remember what the life of these are..but.. I know I have movies I am anxious to get copied as they are past the 'life expectancy" that I was told. I think it is 10 years..but I am sure someone here will know the correct info. DVD disks are expensive, but prices are coming down. I watch the sale papers very closely and buy them on sale. We have also made backup copies of the DVD movies we have purchased. It is nice to know that if one goes, you have a backup. The software we have used to make these copes is DVD X Copy. We bought that on sale too. It has a very simple interface and is very easy to run. We have also scanned the original DVD jacket and DVD itself and then printed a copy of each on DVD Jacket and Label stock. The copied DVD has the same 'look' as the original. You have to LOOK to see the difference. (We also bought the DVD cases on sale - OK..OK..I am cheap! lol!) You can use regular cases for CD's for your DVD recordings, we just choose to use DVD cases. The CD cases are much cheaper. Hope this helps.... Hi Every One. I am interested in buying a DVD Recorder for recording programs on TV. Is there anyone in the Group that knows anything about them , like how many hours can I record on one CD. ?? I have 110 VRC tapes. I want to cut down on the storage space. Is it worth while buying a DVD Recorder or should I keep the Video Recorder. Thanks for any info. Lionel .
