Lil,
    If the icon doesn't appear, it simply means that those items are set up 
for quick removal and 'pulling the plug' is one normal method to disconnect 
them.  The icon should only appear if the any of the items are set up with 
their own cache (temp storage on the hard drive or in memory) within 
Windows.
