Hi,

All files on CD-R media are and always will be read-only. Files=
burned to a CD-RW (ReWritable) disc are not, however, and can be=
treated much as files on a floppy disc.

Different operating systems treat CD-Rs in different ways. WinXP=
will automatically remove the read-only attribute from files=
copied from a CD-R to the hard drive. Older operating systems=
(Win9x, etc.) will typically leave the attribute switched on,=
 once it's copied over.

Regarding the long file names, your burning program should=
support several ISO standards (i.e. naming conventions). ISO1=
will burn the old, short names (<=3D11 chars), and ISO2 will burn=
slightly larger (<=3D31 chars). In a burning program like Nero,=
there should be options to further relax ISO restrictions to=
increase the allowable path depth, and up to 255 characters in=
 the path.

Viewing these CDs in a DOS or Windows 3.x environment will=
_always_ show only the short file names, though.

Let us know...

1. What exactly are you trying to do?
2. What operating system are you using?
3. Which program are you using to burn CDs?

..and then we can advise further.
