I sent instructions on how to change it to not allow people not on your list -
but if she doesn't have it actually running - then you can't get to it to do
that -
Wonder if she could re-install it - then disable it?

Well its true that if you have AOL you've automatically got the chat. But, you
need to be running AOL. Are you running AOL, MJH? If so, I think AOL has
settings to disable the buddy list, or only accept from people on your list.
Someone else would need to help you regarding the actual AOL settings. But, if
you are not running AOL, then it shouldn't be running in the background. What
you can try is have someone IM you while the AOL client is closed and see if it
gets through. Maybe somehow the client is running.

| doesn't everyone who uses AOL automatically get AIM - even if they don't
activate it? That was my understanding from friends with AOL. And then - the
rest of us can just download and use AIM for instant messenging -
| We ended up with an icon on our desktop for AOL broadband one day - just
appeared there! I think it's an advert to click on to go to the site to read
about it. I'm not crazy about progs etc. that just put stuff on my computer
without asking - but - in this case, I wasn't positive, because my daughter
uses it the most, and I wasn't sure if it was something she did or not. she
said she didn't think it was.

| If it's a separate account in addition to my AOL account, no I don't have
| one, but perhaps three or four years ago I did, then deleted the extra thing.
