I usually look every day in the early afternoon at the GOTD site (after reviewing the email I get every morning announcing today's offering) and (1) if I can use the program and (2) the rating is > 70% favorable, I read the top review (which is usually by the same guy who lists the good, the bad and alternatives), I download the program. I also keep a list of the "really good programs" like Process Lasso so that if one or more of my machines has to have Windows reinstalled along with all my "standard" apps, I know to be on the "lookout" for the next time that the program (usually an updated and improved version) is offered.
