I was given an old gateway as payment for fixing a computer for a friend of my landlord. It's a E Series 5400. 966MHz CPU and 256mb Of ram. 10 gig hard drive running XP Home /SP2. I let both Crucial and Memory4all scan the computer to see what memory upgrade is available. as told by both sites that this computer MUST have the correct PC800 to work. Crucial did not show any and memory4all showed only 512mb sticks for 199 USD. At that price I'm going to stay with the 256 for awhile. I would like to put a different hard drive in, 10 gigs is just a little to small. The hard drive in it is a Quantum Fireball EX 10.2 A. It has 5400RPM. My question is do I need to use another 5400RPM or can I use a 7200? A little long winded but I wanted to explain things.
