Hello G,
I tried to use System Restore while in Safe mode, but still the restore
points were only three days ago...never the less, it didn't work at all.

Reboot and repeatedly press F8 as soon as the first screen disappears
(before it gets to the "Windows is now starting" part). Time it right and
you'll be rewarded with a menu of choices, one of which is Safe Mode.
