Billy: It's always best to have an antivirus program, but, having said that, Linux is not nearly as prone to Malware as Windows is, for 2 reasons: a) Linux's security structure differs markedly from that of Windows, making it harder for malware writers to penetrate; & b) The market share of the OS hasn't made it profitable for the criminal element to start writing this type of software. This 2nd condition will likely change as more & more people abandon Windows for more secure platforms. Klamav (spelling--perhaps clamav) is a free antivirus program available for most Linux distros & should serve your purpose well. -- Change the world--1 deed at a time Jackie McBride www.abletec.serverheaven.net Please join me Saturday, 11/7, on my walk against breast cancer by making a donation at: http://main.acsevents.org/goto/larkspur> -- -------list-services-below----------- Regards, John Durham (list moderator) <http://modecideas.com/contact.html?sig> Freelists login at //www.freelists.org/cgi-bin/lsg2.cgi List archives at //www.freelists.org/archives/pchelpers PC-HELPERS list subscribe/unsub at http://modecideas.com/discuss.htm?sig Latest news live feeds at http://modecideas.com/indexhomenews.htm?sig Good advice is like good paint- it only works if applied.
