Hi John and Scott,
I want to thank you both for your input on my problems. John I really messed
up the system file checker thing. It was wanting to redo all the files that
were changed by windows patches and updates ( I thought ) so I told it to
not scan for deleted or changed files thinking it would still prompt me
about corrupt files. I was wrong! It simply updated every file on my pc to
verified status.I always run adaware and spybot. I don't have many programs
running on startup. What I have done is limit the amount of RAM windows is
allowed to use by using MaxFileCache=131072 setting in the Vcache area in
system.ini. This limits windows to 128MB of RAM, leaving the rest for
programs. It seems to be working. Scott I found a windows knowledge base
article that said that windows98 cannot handle 1GB or more of RAM. It
suggested not using more than 512MB. Thanks again.

Good advice is like good paint- it only works if applied.
