Britain and France have signed a new entente cordiale today agreeing to
unprecedented military cooperation including the joint testing of nuclear
warheads.
Nuclear secrets - which have been preserved for five decades - will be shared
under the plans.Britain will surrender testing of nuclear warheads which will
be done at Valduc, near Dijon, from 2015. The Atomic Weapons Establishment at
Aldermaston will instead focus on developing new technology.
The ground-breaking agreement will even see French generals taking command of
the SAS as part of a rapid reaction force.Straight shooter: David Cameron and
French President Nicolas Sarkozy, pictured at Lancaster House in London today,
have signed a military treaty which includes the testing of nuclear
warheadsHelping hand: Mr Sarkozy and Mr Cameron answered questions shortly
after the historic deal was signed. Defence officials claim the pact will save
millions and boost the fighting power of both countries.
But critics claim that the pact has been forced on Britain by budget cuts and
will leave the Armed Forces dependent on their historical rivals, who opposed

bind the Armed Forces of both nations together for 50 yearsThe historic deal
will see Britain and France share aircraft carriers from 2020, so that at least
one is at sea at all times, leaving Britain dependent on French support to
defend the Falkland Islands.The countries will launch a brigade-sized Combined
Joint Expeditionary Force - about 6,000 troops – including the SAS, SBS,
Marines and Paras, to deploy on civil and military operations together and
share more intelligence, air-to-air refuelling and cyber-warfare
capabilities.Yet today, David Cameron and President Nicolas Sarkozy are to
declare a new era of Anglo-French defense collaboration which will make
independent action by either nation all but impossible.
Even at a time when it’s vital to save money, how can this be wise?
True, those who feel deeply uneasy about depending on France will be accused of
living in the past. But it’s the future that worries the Mail.
Though Mr Cameron and M. Sarkozy may get along, where will Britain be left if
we have to plead with a future French Socialist Government for the use of an
aircraft carrier to defend our interests?
And how can the Tories, who rightly opposed plans for a European army, even
consider handing operational control of the SAS and SBS to France?
Mr Cameron said yesterday: ‘The point is to enhance sovereign capability by two
like-minded countries.’
We may be like-minded today, Prime Minister. But what about tomorrow?
EU Naval Force Operational Headquarters in Northwood Hosts Head of German Armed
Forces Operational Command Lieutenant General Hans-Werner Fritz

On Thursday 6 August 2015, the Head of German Armed Forces Operational Command,
Lieutenant General Hans-Werner Fritz, visited the EU Naval Force Operational
Headquarters at Northwood.Lieutenant General Hans-Werner Fritz was met by the
Deputy Operation Commander of the EU Naval Force, Rear Admiral Christoph
Joachim Muller-Meinhard (German Navy).During his visit, Lieutenant General
Fritz was updated on the EU’s counter-piracy mission off the coast of Somalia,
and took time to meet members of the multi-national Headquarters’ staff,
including German military personnel who are deployed with Operation Atalanta.

on: 12 October 2016The European Union (EU) Staff employed at Northwood within
the EU Operational Headquarters (OHQ) and the NATO Maritime Commander
(MARCOM)'s Headquarters provide vital support to Operation ATALANTA (a
Counter-Piracy mission off the Horn of Africa) and broader NATO Maritime
Operations.The requirement for the OHQ, its location, and its EU Staff depend
on a continuing mandate (expected to be extended until December 2018) and
decisions of the EU; and the UK supports continued NATO - EU cooperation
including that through MARCOM.There are are no current plans to relocate the
