Subject: [pasmembers] Live! OSIRIS-REx Matchpoint Rehearsal August 11
I received this announcement of the OSIRIS-REx Matchpoint Rehearsal from
Dolores Hill one of the project scientists. If you have an opportunity to watch
this do so because I think it will be very interesting to see a rehearsal of an
important mission maneuver. It is rare to see something like this. If you can
not watch the live event, view the links for information about OSIRIX-REx
mission and it's current status.
Greetings!
As I indicated in my recent presentations, tomorrow is a very important
milestone for the OSIRIS-REx mission - the final rehearsal before sample
collection! We invite you all to join us for a live play-by-play on Twitter
August 11 at 2:30 EDT on Twitter@osirisrex (https://twitter.com/OSIRISREx)The
OSIRIS-REx team will conduct its Matchpoint Maneuver Rehearsal over the
Nightingale Site on asteroid Bennu. There will be a 16 minute one-way
communication delay between the spacecraft and Earth. So the event commands
will be uploaded to the spacecraft and the maneuver will be conducted
autonomously. The low gain antenna will transmit data to Earth with images and
science data downlinked when the rehearsal is completed.
For more details on the Matchpoint Maneuver see:
https://www.asteroidmission.org/?latest-news=nasas-osiris-rex-is-one-rehearsal-away-from-touching-asteroid-bennuWe
hope that all of you are doing well and that you and your families are staying
healthy!
Best regards, clear skies, and onward to Bennu!
Dolores Hill
