I rented a house in Arizona Sky Village a couple of years ago. Stayed a
week with 2 friends. It's a beautiful area, and besides astronomers it's
also definitely popular with "real" birders (the ones whose camera lenses
are larger than most of my telescopes). You meet them at the Portal Cafe
having breakfast. Jack Newton of early astrophotography fame lives in
ASV. However it is not a "village", just a cluster of homes. No
businesses but also no lights. Closest store is Portal Cafe and grocery (5
minute drive), closest town is Rodeo (pronounced "RO-dee-oh", not
"ro-DAY-oh"), 20 minute drive. It's not just dark, it's dark dark. And
the Chiracahua Mts and the canyon are indeed beautiful. :-)

*The Community*
