Read about the Ourique meteorite that fell in the early morning of
December 28, 1998 in Aldea del Palhieros, Baixa Alentejo, Portugal.  The
villagers who were celebrating the winter holidays described a bright light
in the sky that grew larger and larger because they were in the area the
meteor was going to hit. The meteorite created a 60 cm X 30 cm (24" X 12")
20 cm (8")  deep crater.

Members of the Center for Meteorite Studies and School of Earth and Space
Exploration were at the Boyce Thompson Arboretum including Dr. Laurence
Garvie for an annual gem and mineral festival.

Read about the educational background and research being performed by PhD.
candidate
Zachary Torrano. His research involves isotopic analysis of meteorites and
their components to elucidate the dynamics and evolution of our early solar
system.

Read about one of our former speakers Dr. Emilie Dunham who spoke at the
February 1, 2018 PAS meeting who is now in the Antarctic searching for
meteorites. She is a member of the US-led Antarctic Search for Meteorites
program, Antarctic Search for Meteorites program (ANSMET)

its blog.

Read about the two Martian meteorites the Center was gifted. The two
pieces are known as Black Beauty NWA 7034 and NWA 10922 which is a type of
rock from Mars described as polymict breccia.

Enjoy reading the articles in the newsletter.
