For 11 straight months, I gave Don dozens of free rides to PAS events, to his
doctor, and to personal events. Alex, Rick, Paul F and others also gave Don
dozens of free rides during the same time period. Over the last few weeks Don
has now offered to chip in some money to help out with the time and expense and
energy of giving him rides. I am proud that we have had so many PAS people
willing to help Don for free over the last year. I can't speak for others, but
as I get older I personally am finding it difficult to load and unload Don's
extensive and extremely heavy equipment along with my own equipment. Also, the
extra driving, sometimes up to an hour, in rush hour traffic, does a number on
me. Don is a great guy and I hope others at PAS will help him out with rides.
When it doesn't involve a lot of extra rush hour driving or heavy equipment I
am willing to continue to help Don. For example, if Don needs a ride to the
next PAS meeting I will gladly give him a ride, even though I have to go 25
mins to pick him up in rush hour traffic, then go another 25 mins in rush hour
traffic just to get back to where I started, and then drive another 30 mins in
rush hour to Chilis to meet the speaker. The rest of the night is no problem,
since rush hour will be over and I will not have to wrestle with Don's
equipment. However, for now I need to conserve what strength I have left. At 68
years I am feeling the aches and pains.
Also, whenever Don has asked me personally for a ride I have told him yes, no,
or let me know if no one else can take you and then I will drive you. I have
never ignored his personal phone calls, emails, or in person requests. When
Don asks the entire club for a ride I don't think we should expect every PAS
member to answer no when they can't give him a ride. Take care, Sam Insana

Subject: [pasmembers] Anasazi school Apr 20 - Ride needed
Good afternoon Anasazi Team,
Don would like to do this event, but he needs a ride and he is willing to give
up some of his pay to get that ride.
We have a lack of scopes signed up to do this event, so having Don there is a
good idea. I see Rick and Sam are signed up to do this event.
I'd like to request that when Don sends out a request for a ride, someone
should reply and let him know if he has a ride. Your delay in answering, delays
me in preparing the invoice for that location's event. I'd appreciate it if a
quick Yes or No can be given to Don. And if you are unsure of the pay for the
ride, please confirm with him before hand so that both of you know what price
is agreed upon.
There are some events that it would be great to have a ride, and I've mentioned
to Don that he could give 1/4 of his pay to a ride, if they are just giving him
a ride there and home.
Where as, if they are actually helping at the evnet, such as when Paul attends
an event as Don's ride, I know Paul doesn't just stand around. I'm sure he is
there helping Don with the set up and take down of his scope, as well as
possibly helping to find objects, and in that case, Don should probably offer
1/2 the pay from that event.
This is just my 2 cents, but since I've been in discussion with Don about the
situation, I think that he is making it worth the while of the one giving the
ride, especially if the ride enjoys doing the events. I know I appreciate
getting Don to and from the evnets. If he were closer to me, i'd give him rides
all the time but my time constraints prohibit my ability to transport Don
around.
The other thing I want to mention is that we are all hoping Don's eye will heal
fast so that no one has to give him a ride and as soon as that happens and Don
can be independent again, he can do more of the higher paying events.
I just think that those of you who would give Don a ride, really need to answer
him quick enough or verify with me that Don has a ride, so that i know how to
set up the Invoices for the various evnets Don wishes to attend. Without a
ride, I can't confirm his attendance. So, please, answer Don when he requests a
ride.. just letting him know you Can't do it that date is better than leaving
him hanging, wondering if someone is availble.
I'm requesting a reply... every time. Please.
Thank you so much for helping Don. He is a vital part of the club and i know he
appreciates the rides.
Everyone have a super Thursday. Remember, ASU West is cancelled for tonight. I
don't know what we are doing about tomorrow until I hear from my Weather Team
to let me know.
And if tomorrow is cancelled, I plan to figure out what date to move Hidden
Hills to... so please look at that last email i just sent out to the Star Tours
team and let's get a new schedule date, if it comes needed.
I also appreciate eveyrone taking the time to RSVP not only a Ride for Don, but
your attendance at events. It helps me a lot if you can pop in and let me know
what your status is for that event date/time.
Have a super day!
Terri, Event Manager
Being independent is great. We all want to be independent.
But having to depend on others to transport one of our Team members to events,
is really hard on everyone. I appreciate and I"m sure Don does as well, those
who have helped Don get to where he needs or wants to go.
Thank you!
