This is both an incredibly simple and highly complex situation at the same
time. My bottom line is that the most senior ranks of our military today
remind me a lot more of the movie Paths of Glory than the movie Patton. Pretty
sad commentary. Let's not forget that Biden was a blatant draft dodger who
knows nothing about what it's like to serve, much less in a combat zone, so I
don't expect there to be any consequences for Austin, Milley and McKenzie. I
feel sorry for Scheller, who no doubt reflected, at least in his initial video,
the feelings of a vast number of active duty and retired military as well as
veterans. The subsequent stuff, more the rantings of a lunatic than what we
want in a field grade officer, are sad, but I can only imagine the enormous
pressure put on him that made him a little unhinged in the subsequent public
airings. I don't see how Scheller escapes severe punishment at his
court-martial, at a minimum a general discharge under less than honorable
conditions, and likely a dishonorable discharge. Whether he gets any jail time
is up in the air at this point, given how politicized this has become. I also
don't see him having a future in commentary or politics. Very sad situation.

A very long very thoughtful analysis of responsibility within specifically the
USMC but moreover within the US military establishment. Some not-nice things
said but worth listening to. I hope Eric might listen and comment. Comment
about Mattis was interesting.
