Ken Burns' Country Music series had a great segment on Charlie. Two particular
things that stuck out were Faron Young's comments about him and Pride's first
appearance at the Grand Ole Opry. His voice was sweeter than honey.

away at 86. I especially liked this quote of his:
"They used to ask me how it feels to be the 'first colored country singer,'" he

That's about the only thing that's changed. This country is so race-conscious,
so ate-up with colors and pigments. I call it 'skin hangups' — it's a disease."
