I still remember the HoJos of old as being the absolute best for ice cream.
Their mint chocolate chip, with tiny shavings, was the best ever made. I used
to stock up on pints of it in NYC in the 1970s from the HoJo across 42nd street
from Grand Central Station. And there was nothing else like their "tendersweet
fried clams", which most assuredly were not the wonderful whole-bellied fried
clams you can get in New England, but were nonetheless incredibly delicious and
addictive. Our kids and grandkids will never know those pleasures. A great
tragedy,
