Hi Chris,
Yes, agree probiotics are good! But with GERD you have to be careful which
cultures you consume. With yoghurt, people with GERD need to avoid yoghurts
with D-lactic acid like L. acidophilus, which I’ve found is really common in
commercial yoghurt. I found Farmers Union brand of Greek yoghurt doesn’t have
it, which happened to be the brand we were buying anyway, so when I remember
I’ll have a little. (Not a lot, because: carbs.) I also tried to have homemade
sauerkraut with breakfast, but haven’t had breakfast in a while… and it is easy
to forget because it’s not a habit yet.
Sorry to learn about the Lyme disease. That is such a nightmare. A friend in
the US had it and was in extremely ill health for over 3 years. I hope you are
okay now.
Vicki. :-)

Hi Vicki,
I think that low-fat active culture yogurt would help with the reflux
and provide extra protein at the same time.
It was a life-saver for me when my digestion went haywire during
a 3-month course of antibiotics for Lyme Disease.

Hi Susan,
No the konjac has nothing to do with GERD directly. But acid reflux is caused
by low acidity in the stomach (which is meant to have extremely high levels
of acid), which means the stomach can’t digest carbohydrates as it should,
which leads to gas and reflux, so I’m reducing my carbs to make it a bit
easier on myself. Konjac noodles are simply a low carb alternative and
Kelly’s dish looked yummy!
I’m actually voluntarily foregoing my morning coffees (boo!) and my evening
wine to help reduce symptoms. Most days I can’t face breakfast, even when I’m
feeling okay because I haven’t eaten since the day before. I force myself to
eat one small meal a day, and I know that is absolutely not enough in terms
of nutrients. But in addition to not wanting the after-effects, keto’s
natural appetite-suppressing effect has kicked in. Under-eating on keto was
always a problem for me. It’s just that consuming anything is just not
attractive anymore – it fills me with dread! 😭
I’m also taking digestive bitters before meals, and Betain HCl with Pepsin
and digestive enzymes with meals. I have just had an h.pylori test so that
can be eradicated if it’s present. (H.pylori is very common and suppresses
acid in the stomach, so getting rid of it will help maintain higher levels of
stomach acid.) Hopefully this multi-pronged approach will have a degree of
success over time!
Thanks for the commiserations. 🙂

Oh no Vicki,
GERDS is horrid. Does Konjac help?
I remember having to give up all my favourite food for about 6 months:
no coffee, no chillis (for someone who eats bird eye chillies as is, that was
terrible),
no tomatoes (which I thought I could use to somehow deal with lack of spice
in my life),
nothing with any acid at all which meant no alcohol whatsoever.
Do not remember how I survived.
Hope you recover soon.

That looks delicious. What noodles did you use?
I’m back on keto now (trying to manage terrible GORD – or GERD for you
Americans 🙂) and need to stock up on konjac/shirataki noodles I think!

Just something I’ve kinda made up…A little different variation of a dish
I’ve really been enjoying as I develop it.
This was great!!
