Yep - used to love these as a kid. Caramel slice, coconut jam slice, butterfly
cakes, lemon meringue pie... just a few from memory - mums were pretty creative
back then (70's and 80's). I suppose that it's because there weren't 7 days a
week supermarkets and the variety of premade foods was miniscule.. a good thing
that all these treats were homemade. Who didn't love licking the cake
spoon/bowl if you helped out and got that special treat. And then there was the
schools fete times - we would all help make a whole heap of cakes and
sweets..and always extras.
I still remember my first sponge cake...i used a different beater on the Mix
Master - a big balloon whisk to beat lots of air in there.. best sponge cake
ever - I thinks I was around 10 at the time.
