Bees will take short flights at these temperatures if the sun is shining and
there is no wind. The sun warms them.

The temperature underneath my hTBH was 2 - 3 degrees this morning and there
was quite a dense group of bees outside on the landing board. Every now and
then one would detach itself from the group, walk to the edge of the board
and take off and at similar intervals a bee would fly on to the landing board
and walk inside the hive. I hadn't been expecting to see any bees flying
because of the low temperature - is this surprising?
