You're right - I should have said that the workers in my hive are bringing in
pollen... However, the temperature above the top bars is lower than it was a
few weeks ago and I think there may not be any brood at the moment.

Yes, I noted the same this weekend. But my bees, late developers, are still
building comb and bringing in pollen.
