"FUNKY DRUMMER" CLYDE STUBBLEFIELD DIES MADISON, Wis. (AP) Lenny
Kravitz tweets "the afterlife just got THAT much funkier" with the
passing of James Brown drummer Clyde Stubblefield. Stubblefield's wife,
Jody Hannon, tells The Associated Press her husband died Saturday of
kidney failure at a hospital in Madison, Wisconsin. He was 73.
Stubblefield performed on Brown's songs "Cold Sweat," 'Say It Loud --
I'm Black and I'm Proud" and the "Sex Machine" album. However, his solo
on the song "Funky Drummer" landed him eternal fame in the music world,
as it was sampled more than a thousand times. It appears on Public
Enemy's "Fight the Power," LL Cool J's "Mama Said Knock You Out" and
Run-DMC's "Run's House," as well as George Michael's "Freedom '90.
