This is from Sam, and the song he discusses is in the Songs folder.
Although Maybellene, Chess 1604 released in July of 1955, was Chuck
Berry's first record credited to him, a year earlier, a song called Oh
Maria, Ballad
5008 was recorded in 1954 by a trio calling themselves Joe Alexander
and the Cubans. The person playing guitar was Chuck Berry but he used
the name Chuck
Berryn at the time to keep from embarrassing his father who was the
Deacon at the First Antioch Church in St. Louis. Anyway, this is one
of the many mambo
records that came out at the height of the mambo dance craze of 1954.
