Yes, I've heard from others who've tried to get books from BARD that they're
getting service errors, and I told the friend I was talking to about it that it
sounded to me as if BARD was down. I, too, hope they get it up and running
again really soon. I wonder if the problem is weather related or whether
they're trying to update the site. In any event, I kind of hope when there's
some kind of intentional update they let us know or would put something on the
site to let us know somehow that the outage is intentional.
I think a lot of us who are blind face that frustration, not being able to
access new applications of interest. Too bad you can't get in touch with the
application developers, but finding out who those folks are would be difficult
at best I would imagine.
Well, my dear, I think your quandery about the fire dispatcher isn't at all a
new one. The only way I would know to do it would be to discretely ask a friend
of his or something like that. If you start regularly seeing this guy at ham
radio classes, possibly there would be a way you could get to know him but not
on a dating basis, just simply on the basis that you'd love to talk with him as
a former fire dispatcher. Possibly that way you could ask him if he might be
available for a lunch together or something like that. In that way, you could
ask him about getting together without having to know whether he's single or
not, just wanting to talk with him about his former job and the difficulties
that may have ensued for him. Sounds like he really was a brave person, and
yes, I would think it would have been very difficult for him to dispatch during
the 911 crisis. Wow. You might even mention to him that your dad was a fireman
upstate, telling him where you lived. Hope you at least can get to meet him for
a friendly chat. I'll bet he is indeed married.
