Hi Kathleen,
I too want to wish you a happy birthday. Glad your Mom and you were able to
talk and that she is sending you the package. What part of Vermont are you
going to? I had friends that used to live in Burlington Vermont. It was
really cool. It was a pedestrian city with with hardly any cars. It was small
enough that people could walk any where. They didn't have a lot of crime so
people could feel safe to mingle at 10:00 or 11:00 at night without worrying
about something happening to them. They also have to die for maple syrup.
Anyway, happy birthday early.
Connie
P.S. If you do go to an Apple Store you might ask them if they have any
keyboards you could look at and maybe try out that are compatible with your
iPhone.

Hey Kathleen, first off, an early happy birthday to you!! At least you were
lucky enough to be born on a February 28th and not on a leap year on the 29th
of
the month. At least you actually have your birthday come up each and every
year!
I'm really glad your mom and you had a chance to have a good talk, and also
glad
that she's sending you things like cookies, candy and things like soap and
deodorant and maybe toothpaste that we can all use. Sweet!
Your friend Allen sounds like a really nice guy. Is he blind also? Hope you
do
get to go to Vermont soon. I hear it's really beautiful there, though as
blind
people, we'd probably miss out on a lot of the beauty there.
Do you live near a YWCA? Or a YMCA? Those are usually places with pools and
they welcome people with disabilities. From what I understand, the one
closest
to me in Oakland is very accommodating, and they have specific classes which
encourage those of us with disabilities and with things like arthritis going
on
in our knees to exercise them in the water. Hopefully the water is nice and
warm too. I gather the Y near me has an indoor pool. I wanted to go there
but
things were progressively getting worse for me so had to not follow through
with
my desires on that. Anyway, I was just thinking that perhaps there's
something
like a Y near you which wouldn't be too outlandishly expensive where you could
take swim classes and get the exercise you're interested in getting. Hope
that
might be of help.
I can certainly see why you'd want to get away for awhile, especially after
all
of the stuff you've been through with the apartment reconstruction. Sure hope
you can get away, and also hope that you'll be able to do it in a time when
the
weather is best, not too hot, not too cold. Is there any chance you might be
able to see your mom? Goodness knows, I'll bet she'd love to see you again!
If you have an Apple store near you, you'd probably be able to get the help in
figuring out how to set up the QVC app on your I-phone. They might be able to
help you with other things as well. Maybe you could start making a list of
the
things you want to get help with. They were very accommodating to me.
However,
if memory serves, I had to make an appointment to go in before I went. I
couldn't just walk or be driven to the nearest Apple store and expect to be
seen. My friend Ann is thinking seriously about getting an I-phone and
getting
lessons in how to work with it, including perhaps printing things by attaching
her phone to a printer. I am sure she'd be able to catch on to how to use it,
but like anything, she'd need help learning in the beginning. The folks at
the
Apple store were extremely accommodating and helpful to me when I did manage
to
get in there. Good luck getting an appointment. You'd have to get a certain
number off of your phone, something like an I M E I number. It's sort of
like
your telephone's serial number I think, and I was told where to get it from.
I
think it's in the "about" menu. I think the number has 16 digits or something
like that.
