You’re like me, Devon, wanting to answer questions kids have. I remember going
to school with a kid named Marty who was five years younger than I was. A
little kid from his first grade class wondered if Marty and I were brother and
sister. I explained that we weren’t but that he had some really sweet brothers
and sisters already.

Folks, did I ever tell you about the time that a little boy asked his mother
repeatedly whether I was related to Ray Charles? I was playing piano for a
Canada Day party that a retirement home was holding for its residents, and I was
providing background music. I didn’t hear the little guy, or I would have
answered his questions. As it was, the mother got more and more embarrassed
because the child kept asking, and the mother kept trying to shush him. When I
first heard the story from friends of mine, my initial reaction was to have a
good laugh about it. My second was to write an article called Don’t Say Shh! I
sent it to Parent Magazine, but they didn’t want it. I love the questions kids
ask. They’re all the questions that adults would like answers to, but they
don’t want to ask. By the way, Ray and I aren’t even the same colour, but who
cares? Lol. Devon.

Walt, thanks so much for the nuggets. Sounds as though you’ve run into some
pretty neat kids at restaurants lately. When and if I go out lately, I
absolutely love it when I experience kids with their parents, the younger the
better. Love it when their kids are asking them questions about what this or
that thing is, or they’re trying to do something like put butter on an item
themselves at two years of age. Yeah, right! LOL. Frustrating for Mom or Dad.
