Hi Walt,
Thanks so much for this week’s Nuggets. I hadn’t heard Fanny’s version of “I’ve
Had It,” and I hadn’t heard the song by the Marvellettes but would estimate it
came out in 1962 just after “He’s A Play Boy.” I absolutely love Martin Denny’s
version of “A Taste of Honey” which I remember from the spring of ’62. There
was another version out at the same time by a guy whose first name was Victor,
and I hated it because he didn’t play the song as sweetly and didn’t get the
chord progressions right either. Thankfully, John Q. Public agreed with me on
that one. I didn’t have a phonograph that worked at the time and couldn’t buy
records as I had no allowance, but had bronchial pneumonia the last part of May
and into June of ’62 so became very familiar with what was out musically at that
time. What a treat for me!

01 Beach Boys, The Beach Boys' Medley
In early 1982, this release became the Beach Boys' biggest selling record in
five years. I assume the previous one was "Sail on, Sailor," but I don't know it
for sure. This medley is the best example of audio editing I've heard. For that
reason, I couldn't resist making it one of this week's nuggets.

I remember this, but not as a big hit such as "Please Mr. Postman" or "Playboy".
I surely liked it nevertheless.
03 Bellnotes and Fanny, contrast, Ive had it
Until a couple years ago, I was part of a group that played music for each other
on line on Tuesday afternoons. Known as Joanie's Musical Corner, the weekly
event was hosted for seven or eight years by Joanie Leonard via
talkingcommunities.com. For this group, I produced this contrast based on two
versions of the song "I've Had It." Since it is a produced piece that includes
both recordings, I'm also including clear copies of both versions of "I've Had
It."
04 Martin Denny, A taste Of Honey
This release by the gentleman who recorded "Quiet Village" in 59 came out in the
summer of 62 - fully three years before Herb Alpert's hit version.
05 Allan Sherman - A Waste of Money
Based on Herb Alpert's arrangement of "A Taste of Honey," this Sherman release
is one I'd not heard until this summer. Presumably, it came out around 1966.
Don't forget! Our nuggets break begins August 15 and continues until at least
September 12; possible the 19th. It'll kind of depend on arrangements for some
more house projects we're planning for September.
