Going up to OD is the first Beatles album released in the US. 10 days before
Capitol released Meet The Beatles, VJ released Introducing the Beatles. Well
as we all know VJ, Swan Tolli eventually stopped releasing Beatles material.
By mid 1965, Capitol was the only label releasing beatles material. Swan and
Tolli released some singles as did VJ. But VJ also released Introducing the
Beatles in 2 versions, and in several configurations. Version 1 had Love Me Do
and PS I love You plus 10 other songs from Please Please Me. Then VJ lost
the rites to those 2 songs, so the next version of Introducing the Beatles had
Please Please Me and Ask me Why plus those 10 other songs from please Please
Me. Then they came out with songs Pictures and Stories Of The Fabulous
Beatles, which had a double gated cover, but inside was the same Introducing
The Beatles Version 2. Then VJ tried again by releasing a double album, The
Beatles Verses the Four Seasons. One album was Introducing The Beatles, and
the other album was a Best Of The Four Seasons after they left VJ. In 1975, VJ
again came out with Introducing the Beatles, in horrible sound, in fake stereo.
Bass in the left channel and tinny trevel in the right channel. The tapes had
deteriorated so much that you could here the splices as they passed over the
play head. The vinyl was very thick and heavy. Also this album, both versions
has been one of the most pirated beatles albums ever. At one time I had both
versions on vinyl, but the sound quality was less than acceptable. Plus the
photos on the pirated versions were fuzzy looking. However this CD version
does sound quite good. I do have a mono version where you can here the high
end crackle from the vinyl.
Sure wish I could find version 1 of Introducing The Beatles. In the meantime,
enjoy this long out of print album. You are subscribed to Ourplace (
