Bhagwati was born in Rajasthan, a poor village in
the driest region of India.
There, water was so scarce, that women walked for
miles to get water or used local well water, which is salty, unpleasant and is
being depleted.
To conserve water, the women cleaned dishes with
sand or ash.
Yet by contrast, when Bhagwati moved to the U.S.,
he found clean water instantly available.
From his American experience, Bhagwati became
determined to solve his village's dire water situation and in 2003, he returned
