Andrew, I wouldn't mind helping with that but I'm not sure how. Would running/walking any of the roads/trails with a gps watch then downloading the information help? Given the messages I've seen about changes in running accessibility, referring to the map seems about right. The attached map from the ORNL website is evidently current as of November 2007. Seven years seems like a decent interval for an updated map of permitted access/use. Naturally I can't make such a request without volunteering to be part of the solution, so I hereby volunteer to do the cartography if someone can point me to the GIS shapefiles of the roads and buildings, and if someone can compile/vet the list of places where running and biking are currently permitted. Any help would be greatly appreciated. (after they do the truck inspection) closed to runners now? It was such a nice quiet place to run that kept you away from the traffic. Walking/running/cycling in the dark: Wear bright, reflective clothing! A must! It's spring, which means daffodils, cyclists and joggers are popping up along the highways. It's also Daylight Saving Time, which comes earlier than it used to, resulting in dark and gloomy morning commutes. For foot travelers and cyclists, the old school safety poster read "Wear white at night." The advice still holds. Pedestrians, joggers and cyclists should wear light colored or reflective clothing when walking or riding near roadways in the dark. Dark clothes make an individual practically invisible under certain conditions. Wear white/bright outer covering is a good idea; reflective tape is preferable. Some sort of light is even better. If you are walking/running/cycling along roads in the dark, make yourself conspicuous. The advice is the same for daylight: Wear bright colors so motorists will see you.
