Public comment is always welcome. You can attend in person or via zoom.
Sadly though, the discussion is the last item on the agenda.

Can the residents personally attend the next meeting to address the sprinkler
issue? Personally, I believe there is no respect for we residents in old town.

Hi Bob
It wasn’t our intent to have a discussion without prior notice. While we have
been trying to moving quickly and the “Marshall Fire Update” has been a catch
all for the many work streams, we should have noticed this specific item on the
agenda.
Staff had compiled a fair amount of information that day for the necessary
infrastructure investments that didn’t make it into the packet. As a result, we
are going to agenda this item again for April 25th and have a proper discussion
about the sprinkler requirements in the town code.
I’m sorry about the challenges you have had with the debris cleanup process.
If it hasn’t been rectified, please reach out to me directly.

I don't understand why the Board can dictate to us the requirements for
sprinklers. It's well documented sprinklers would not have saved our homes
lost to the Marshall Fire. This will add several thousands of dollars in our
efforts to rebuild.
While we recently obtained a building permit to clear our two lots of debris,
it was not after the building department changed their minds 7 times in the
process! Meanwhile, FEMA has already been granted demolition permits, without
have to jump though any hoops.
We just want to rebuild our homes with our neighbors that we have known for the
past 30 years and reestablish the community we have grown to love. Why it the
Town making this such a difficult process? At the minimum, the sprinkler
requirement should have been done in a public meeting with our input and
discussion. Doing this without the resident's input is outrageous!

Are we to understand that the Town of Superior conducted a un-noticed
discussion on Monday, April 11th about the in-home sprinkler system
requirement, after receiving several emails signed from multiple residents
expressing specific interest in information on this very topic?
This blatant disregard – and huge disrespect – to residents of the Original
Town is unacceptable.
Under nearly identical circumstances, the Town of Louisville exempted those who
lost everything in the fire from this added burden. We look forward to Town of
Superior revisiting any decisions made without proper notification and public
input. Please do let us know - in writing - when this will be readdressed in a
formal setting that shows a modicum of respect for those you govern.
Why is it that Louisville seems to offer great support for those rebuilding,
while the Town of Superior seems much more interested in creating barriers -
are we really pushing life-long residents into fire sales? What is the Town of
Superior doing to ensure that life-long and generational residents are welcomed
home after this tragedy?

We have heard from two additional families wishing to add their names to the
request to forgo any requirement for indoor fire suppression sprinklers in all
new single-family builds.
Along with neighbors who have previously written, please also consider this
request on behalf of Bob and Tina McLaren and the Chavez families.
We look forward to your reply with acknowledgement of this urgent request from
residents of the Original Town, as we look to minimize barriers for rebuilding
upon our land.

To the Town Trustees, Staff and Planning Commission of the Town of Superior~
First, we would like to thank you for your hard work and diligence in the
aftermath of the Marshall Fire. We are grateful to all who lead with integrity
to guide our citizens through this trying time of rebuilding and recovery. We
trust our community will find the necessary support to return stronger than
ever.
This letter is being sent on behalf of many neighbors to request your
compassion and consideration as we take on the overwhelming task and expense of
rebuilding.
We are very much in support of foregoing the requirement for indoor fire
suppression sprinklers in all new single-family builds. We call upon the Town
of Superior to consider repealing this requirement, as Louisville is in the
process of doing, and Denver has done. There are indications that sprinklers do
not necessarily mitigate damage in single-family residences, and may in fact
cause considerable damage, hence the repeals in surrounding communities.
With so many of our residents (if not all) significantly underinsured, we look
to the Town to remove costly barriers to rebuilding, such as this mandate for
sprinklers. Like green building codes, interior sprinklers should be optional,
rather than mandated by Town code. Efficacy of these systems is questionable at
best.
Thank you for hearing the strong appeal from so many of your affected
constituents, signed below.
With Superior Thanks,
Megan Williams
