Thanks Russ. After getting your email I watched the webinar last night. I was
surprised to find that Mandarin Duck wasn’t designated Exotic: Escapee in
Oregon. I realize that Mandarin Ducks have reproduced in parts of the ABA area,
but I have never heard of reproducing Mandarins in Oregon. Has anyone heard of
such a thing? I’m in favor of asking eBird Central to make that change. I’m
also okay with your suggestions about Muscovy Duck.

Just to follow up, eBird is adopting a policy to Accept as Escapee rather
than a Not Accept as Introduced/Exotic.
Reviewers can see designations in eBird checklists and the implementation
will happen in 2022 sometime. Clicking on the Oregon eBird checklist allows
one to see the designations (scroll all the way down to the orange SENSITIVE

I believe that Mandarin Duck should be changed to EXOTIC: ESCAPEE and that
recommendation should be passed on to eBird Central after some discussion
here.
Muscovy Duck (Domestic Type) should be the only listing on any Oregon filter
as it automatically is designated at EXOTIC: ESCAPEE (This is contrary to
earlier thoughts about phenotypes of similar looking wild and established
feral populations).

Monk Parakeet was at one point established and countable and should remain
EXOTIC: PROVISIONAL even thought the likelihood of that population coming
back in close to nil.
Likewise, the introduction of White-tailed Ptarmigan in 1967 (curiously
absent from Birds of Oregon: General Reference) is probably good as is.
Thoughts?

Subject: [orebird] Exotic birds webinar & filters/designation
Hey all~
If you haven't watched the recent eBird webinar on exotic species, I highly
recommend it.

There is also a Google doc that you can review as well.

I think there can be a feedback and work done on the status of some of the
exotic in Oregon (Mute Swan and Mandarin Duck come to mind).
Cheers,
Russ
