Hello ORCA Members,
I wanted to report that due to the efforts of so many members the our field
looks great. Bushes were trimmed along the road sides. Weeds were whacked
along the orange fence and under the work tables. A new orange safety fence
was set up at the opening to the north. Tables were repaired and half of
them were painted with a fresh coat of paint ( we left the other half to be
done some time soon so that we could still fly after the work party). Old
nails and screws were removed from the work tables to make it safer for both
people and planes. New foam bumpers were attached at critical areas of the
fence. The wind-sock was repaired and fresh orange streamers attached to the
pole. Out in the swamp fresh orange streamers were affixed to poles so that
we would have a reference if we put a plane down there and they also show
wind direction in the swamp. Grass seed was scattered on the bare spots of
the field (and it made the birds so happy). The lawn tractor made several
passes down the center of our dirt road to take care of the tall grass to
reduce fire hazards from catalytic converters. The first aid box was
replaced, replenished and reorganized. Trails from the field going east were
trimmed with hand tools and are awaiting a small power mower now to finish
the job. New tennis balls were affixed to the metal “T” posts to make them
safer and easier to see. A new pink styrofoam block was attached to the
sea-container lock box to keep the wasps from making a nest next to the
padlock. The sand filled mini garbage can (for bad batteries) was labeled.
Sending thanks to all the ORCA volunteers ,
